Samsung Galaxy Tabs to get ICS, soon

As some Android users await the official OT Jelly bean update, some are still stuck at GB and Honeycomb waiting for an ICS update. If you’re one of them and you own one of the newer versions of Galaxy Tab, then that long and agonizing wait is about to be over.

Our source said that an Android 4.0.4 update has already begun rolling out for some Galaxy Tabs and the global update is imminent in the coming weeks.

Here’s the list of those slates:

GT-P6210 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WiFi
GT-P6200 Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 WiFi + 3G
GT-P6810 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WiFi
GT-P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 WiFi + 3G
GT-P7310 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiF
GT-P7300 Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi + 3G
GT-P7510 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi
GT-P7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi + 3G

Although there’s no word on the exact date when the update will be rolled out here, we suggest to start checking for the ICS update on Samsung Kies or on your tablet once in a while some time next time next week.

If you’re an owner of one that tablets above, you might feel a bit disappointed about the late release of the update. I know I’d be. And what adds insult to the injury is that it’s not Jellybean. But looking at the brighter side even if the update was late and it’s not the Jelly bean update that you’d hope for, at least Samsung has still made an effort to bring you up to speed and a step closer to the new OS.

Sir Yuga, is there a way for you to ask someone from Samsung Philippines as to when are they planning to release ICS on Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G+wifi. It is already September 22, 2012 and I am not yet seeing any OTA update from them! Nakakainis na sila!!!

    • Avatar for Anthony in Ormoc Anthony in Ormoc says:

RJ, if you don’t have Kies installed on a computer, you won’t be able to get the update. I just got mine on the P6200 Galaxt Tab2, 7.0 plus, so you probably have it too, but can only install it through kies interface.

You can submit a question to samsung.com/ph, but I doubt it will do you much good, they are worthless in customer service.

    • Avatar for RJ RJ says:

Yep. I tried installing Kies 2.3.something.. but when I tried connecting my Tab 8.9, it says that my device is not supported. So I can’t update thru OTA or Kies. Bummer right? :-(

    • Avatar for Anthnoy in Ormoc Anthnoy in Ormoc says:

Well that sucks. Two questions, when you connect to Kies, does your tablet show up at all? Or is Kies not supported on the Tablet?

With mine, I tried to “initialize firmware update”, and my model was not supported for that. But, when I connected to Kies, and just let it do it’s thing, it looked at my current firmware, then notified me of an update. It was a hassle, took a few tries, and about 2 hours to get the ICS installed, but now it works fine.

Try going here to ask your question.

Found a link “Samsung GT-P6200 upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4)” but im scared to do this on my own

Hello Katy, I contacted samsung philippines, and they sent this reply to me. Do NOT do the update from any site that claims to be ICS for your tablet. Samsung Philippines is coming out with it (so they claim) and you can do the upgrade through Keis, when it is available. Or, if you have internet using Smart/Globe USB, then you can install the SIM from the USB directly into your tablet, and get the update that way.

If you are on a 999 plan, and you are using the USB dongle, I highly recommend that you use the tablet as your gateway to the internet. If you insert the SIM from the dongle into your tablet, you will get much faster speeds. Also, you can then set up a “wifi hotspot”, and share your connection with other devices. I use my tablet mainly for this purpose. I have 2 laptops, 2 phones, a TV, and a desktop, all connecting to the internet through my Galazy Tab2 7.0 plus.

Thank you for contacting Samsung Philippines; we appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

We have reviewed the chatting history and we do apologize for the wrong information given by one of our Live Chat Agent. Your Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (GT-P6200) is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich and you may wait it this coming September but no exact date when it will be released. Once again, we do apologize for the inconvenience Mr. Anthony.

Please feel free to visit our support website often at http://www.samsung.com/ph/support for frequently asked questions, service location and repair self tracking.

If a question arises, do not hesitate to call us on 1-800-10-7267864 (1800-10-SAMSUNG) or you may write us again. We will be glad to be at your service.

      Sincerely,

Actually, I talked to samsung via chat a few days ago, and those of us who own the Tab2 7.0 plus, P6200, well we are out of luck, samsung philippines told me they have no plans to upgrade to ICS, because of a browser conflict. I think it is a BS answer, and either they are unwilling to debug for our model, or they are too stupid.

But I should not be surprised, anyone living in the Philippines, should know that customer service, and product support, DO NOT EXIST IN THIS COUNTRY. Pathetic, samsung philippines should be ashamed of themselves. I could list all the products of theirs that I own, but it would be a waste of time, and this tablet, is the LAST one I will buy from that brand.

actually for my tab 7.0 plus 3g=wifi, there has been notification for some firmware update probably from my carrier (SMART) but i dunno if this is realy OTA since ive been reading a lot and upgrades on via samsung KIES, so shud i or shud i not download the update?

  11. Avatar for Ayrand Ayrand says:

It’s already the 17th of August and still no sign of ICS for my 7.7 (P6800)

Really, this is taking Samsung too damn long. I sure would like to head to sammobile and flash my tab as suggested above, but I am afraid that if something goes wrong, Samsung might void my warranty. Jeepers!

I’ve learned newer and more effective things from your blog post. Also a thing to I have found is that typically, FSBO sellers may reject anyone. Remember, they will prefer not to use your services. But if you maintain a gentle, professional romance, offering support and keeping contact for around four to five weeks, you will usually be capable to win a conversation. From there, a listing follows. Thanks a lot

ok, so eventually, i upgraded to ics.

here’s what’s wierd: setting apn type to “internet” won’t let me connect via 3g; setting apn type to blank would let me connect.

it’s opposite with my stock rom, dlxa2, and my galaxy y.

And don’t worry, even if it’s made for other regions (Australia, etc.), my still works. Everything is just peachy.

Note that this Samsung 7.7 Firmware is only for the 6800 (Wifi+3G) model.

Last year, I remember reading an article on the Samsung website saying that indeed they will release the ICS for those tabs. They said the release date was “some time during the 1st quarter of 2012.” It’s already July and still nothing. After reading this Yuga article, I’m not sure how true it is time time around, but I’m not holding my breath. :(

This TRUE just flashed my tab with this update it works fine… If you Like you can try it

    • Avatar for dyonisii dyonisii says:

bon, austria and other european countries have started receiving ics since yesterday.

according to reports, samsung is distributing by regions.

there will also be no notifications because the only way to upgrade is via kies and there will be no ota update.

who knows, the asian market might be next, or tomorrow. (no update tonight. i just checked.)

If your tired of waiting head to sammobile and download the update it works perfectly and great.. I know because i flashed mine… Speed improvements and battery life are great changes in the update
